Darin's Diary

We're off. And this is the first of what I hope will be many journal entries from me.

I always tell members of our team to make the most of every moment, or in other words, "Sleep when you get home." I'm always excited to see team members take that advice to heart. Jackie didn't waste a moment, as you can see in this photo taken in the JFK terminal.

Seriously, the trip has gone very smoothly thus far. Our bus ride to New York was fun. It was filled with much conversation and a couple hours of singing together. Jesse and John played almost every song that was requested, and did so very capably. We had quite a choir. Our check in at JFK was the smoothest we've ever had on one of these trips. The first flight to Dubai was marvelous and most of the team managed to get some quality rest. So, those of you who are praying for us... thanks! And keep it up.

My time was spent as usual for me - marveling at the amazing collection of folks that make up this team. I watched everybody. I listened in on their interactions with each other. I'm amazed that this team, which came together late in the planning stages, is really functioning as a team from the get-go.

I am typing this sitting in the Marhaba Lounge in the Dubai Airport, provided for us by Emirates Airlines free of charge. So, know that your loved ones are all here, and look to all be enjoying themselves. They all look pretty good, and rested, and are eagerly awaiting our 4AM Dubai time departure for Johannesburg.

Jackie - you look like you are getting quite chummy with this man in the picture. hmmmmm
we are still in thunderstorm alley as another big one is just rolling by. Erin is home sick with a nasty stomach bug from camp.
Can't wait to hear more of the adventure.
Love to my girls

Hi Guys,
Is the other side of the world as far away as you thought that it was?
Anyway,we're praying for you and missing you. I am taking care of the Munson kids today for Ginger, so I'm on the team. Keeping you in mind, Erica M!

Hi Mandy,
I am so happy to see this update, and to know that you all made it to Dubai and everything went so smoothly. One more day you will be in Africa. I am so excited for all of you on this trip and the way that Christ will show up in all your lives.
I love you Mandy Pandy.

Kerry,

I finally figured out what you can bring back for me from Africa: since this is your first time going, I'd love to have you sit down in a quiet space at the end of your first full day incountry, and record your first impressions -just a paragraph, or maybe a list of adjectives - of being in Namibia.
Then, on your last day, could you reflect on the previous 2 weeks and put some more thoughts down?

Thanks honey.
And remind Bonnie - she's too young for wine.

Jesse,
Get some good eats from the lounge for me! :)
The shower I took in the Dubai lounge was the most refreshing shower of my life. Hope you're surviving the heat and humidity.

It's raining cats and dogs here. god's putting on a lightning show.

The other side of the world does indeed seem far away. Thanks for being part of the team and taking such good care of my little ones. I hope the thunderstorm didn't make things too crazy....you are such a blessing - thank you!

to the Burns'...

Hope the reunion is going well. So far Grant and I are really enjoying the "getting there" part of the journey. I'm even blogging, of all things!! Probably my only one as we are still lounging in the lounge here in Dubai. Please give my regards to the rest of the Burns clan. We are being a light in the southern hemisphere for them as well. Love you all! ginger and grant

Hi doll! thanks for the emails... you have made my day! left walmart with your brother's birthday gifts and 9 million dollars worth of groceries for VT only to find myself wandering aimlessly looking for John Overbeck's car and the lightening was from God to me (sky to ground :) unbelievable! I'm thrilled to hear you are all safe and comfortable in Dubai. Darin's right....sleep on the planes..... otherwise, sleep when you get home! :) Love you, MEAN IT!!!!!
I'll be thinking of you at 11:40pm (4:40 your time) I actually have a world clock set up on the desktop so I know what time it is wherever you are..... I'm a geek.

Hello team and those at home, especially "geek mom" - great idea setting up a world clock. I'm going to try it! :) Actually for those at home - are there prayer meetings taking place at scheduled times at CCA? Please let us know when and we here in the great (and SUNNY) state of NC will mark our calendars and lift our voices in prayer with you all - together but separately!
C-ray - soooo very great etalking so much this afternoon. We will miss the connection soon, but our heart strings will always be attached, even as you go places you've never been before - physically, emotionally, and Spiritually! Yay, God! love you C; God bless you all. In His Love, grammy duncan
